News of more recent fundraising from the church choir is published in the local press here today. Our Christmas concert raised £1230 to add to that already raised by the children's choir. |

Two recent choir concerts have helped support charities very close to our choirs' hearts.
The Wallingford Singers concert in November raised £450 for South & Vale Carers who provide advice and support to local carers in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of The White Horse, whilst the December Children's Choir event raised £400 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Thanks to all who came and gave so generously.
If you want to support the Bone Cancer Research Trust and are in the mood for some carols, then come along to St Mary's Church in Wallingford tomorrow (Saturday 10th December) for our Christmas Concert - tickets on the door.

A nice piece on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 looked at the enduring popularity of traditional hymns, and they played some snippets and tracks from the Hymns Album. If you missed the show here's a link to the piece. BTW - seems like we're a hit with Sally Traffc too..!
Incidentally, the piece caused a bit of a twitter debate, comments from Ann Widdecombe, and articles in the Daily Mail and Daily Express when Jeremy said he needed permission from the DG of the BBC to play a hymn.
Obviously Jeremy was joking, but this eventually involved the BBC having to release a statement to sort out any confusion. Still, it doesn't seem to have harmed our Amazon sales... |

The recent Wallingford Singers concert raised £424 for the Chiltern Centre. The centre has supported eighty five families from across the Thames Valley and South Oxfordshire by providing short overnight stays and daycare for children and young people with severe physical and learning disabilities.
In common with many charities the centre has experienced a dramatic fall in grant funding from corporations and trusts; and this at a time when local authority cuts make the outlook for social care budgets very uncertain. As a result of these pressures, the centre needs an urgent cash injection to ensure that they can both maintain our existing care and expand our service following the addition of two new bedrooms at the Chiltern Centre.

Sunday 26th June saw us return to perform on BBC Songs of Praise. Fittlingly enough the theme is 'Enduring Hymns'. We were joined on the programme again by Wynne Evans, Melanie Marshall and the congregation of Wesley Memorial Church in Oxford. The Songs of Praise page for the programme is available here.
On the same day we lead our own Songs of Praise service as part of Churches Together, Wallingford - “Glory in the Countryside” - Songs of Praise and Picnic on the recreation ground in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell. Wallingford Parish Church Choir lead the hymn singing and performed a couple of special numbers... |

Hardeep Singh Kohli was sitting in for Aled Jones on Good Morning Sunday on Radio 2 this week. Rather excitingly, the request for the Choral Classic this week was for our version of 'Love Divine all Loves Excelling' from the Hymns Album.
Hardeep via twitter has said he would like us to play his Edinburgh Fringe show - would love to, but I expect we'll be in Canterbury...
A link to the relevent point in the show is given here. |

We've made it into the charts for the second week running - two weeks at number 2 in the UK official Classical Chart, and also number 2 in the Classic FM chart - See the article in the Wallingford Herald, Hitting a High Note. Perhaps at least as exciting - on the week of release we made it to number 39 in the overall album chart, although a play on Radio 1 still escapes us...
