Musical Weekend May 22nd and 23rd At St Mary's

Wallingford Parish Church Choir is very pleased to be hosting a Methodist College Choir from Dallas, Texas during May. The 30 strong choir, led by Trevor Shaw, will be singing at various Cathedrals and Chapels during their weeklong stay. The weekend will be particularly exciting, based in Wallingford itself.

On Saturday May 22nd the two choirs will combine in a concert at St Mary's Church, Wallingford when they will also be joined by the Wallingford Chamber Choir. The concert will include Wood’s Hail Gladdening Light and Parry’s I Was Glad, as well as items from the three choirs separately. The concert starts at 7.30 pm and tickets (priced £6 and £4 for under 16s) will be available from from Sue on 01491 835207 or Just Trading at 80 High Street Wallingford.

On Sunday May 23rd the Church and College Choirs will be singing at the 10 am Communion Service at St. Mary’s when the Mass setting will be Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicholai. This is a setting which the Church Choir will be singing when they visit Lichfield Cathedral in August. It is a real treat for them to be able to sing it in their home church.

Also on Sunday at 6.30 pm in St. Mary’s there will be a joint Choral Evensong, which promises to be really special with a choir of 60 plus singing Wood’s Collegium Regale Magnificat and Nunc  Dimittis for Double Choir. It will put the improved acoustic in St. Mary’s to good use!

Everyone is welcome at both of these Services and the concert. It would be lovely to see you there. If you haven’t been inside the recently re-ordered St. Mary’s you are in for an extra treat!
